Why is June Mcdoom one of the only folkie singer-songwriters this List will List? Because what we object to around here to direct unadorned self-expression — tell it to your therapist — but McDoom’s pieces (at least on record) are mediated by sonic manipulation, by the layers of fuzz and sonic gunk she pours on. It ends up being fascinating, actually — and as dark as her name portends.
