The New York Phil pretends it isn’t a definitionally Euro-centric museum by playing pieces by (good) African-American composers and other people who aren’t Dead White Men. Raising the question: would the Philharmonic seem more like it actually believes in this stuff if it programed it along with its more usual offerings rather than ghettoizing it?

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: You can make it to Kwame Onwuachi’s in-house Afro-Caribbean restaurant Tatiana (not to be confused with the one in Brighton Beach) for dinner after the Thursday concert; after the Friday and Saturday you can get bar snacks there.
