One of New York City’s top New Music vocal ensembles doing Early Music? Ekmeles contends that the weirdly chromatic music of the Baroque composer/murderer Carlo Gesualdo de Venosa is even more weirdly chromatic than we know: we’ve been getting the tunings wrong, they say — and done properly, it’s stranger than ever. Can’t wait to hear what they’ve come up with.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: In person, I’m not gonna even tell you what El Mil Sabores puts on their Torta Loca sandwich. You have to see it for yourself. Streaming at home, have a Bicicletta: pour 2 oz. each of Compari and white wine into a wine glass (as tempting as it may be on this ocassion, do NOT waste the ambrosial long-lived white wine made by one of Carlo Gesualdo’s successors as Principe di Venoso). Add ice. Top with soda water. Stir. Garnish with an orange wheel.
