Arthur Kampela could be said to be like a Brazilian Frank Zappa — the avant-classical influences, the stop-and-start rhythms — but, being Brazilian, he’s good rather than annoying; I don’t know why they do the Pop/intellectual thing so much better than we do. (Another difference is that Kampela is an actual classical composer — not someone who gets Pierre Boulez to front him as one.) He’ll do stuff from his stunning 35-year-old breakout “pop” album, Epopéia e Graça de uma Raça em Desencanto. And some new deconstructions of Bossa Nova that have got to be fascinating.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: God forbid I should send you to a Peruvian restaurant after this, but while Mission Ceviche, despite its claims, doesn’t serve the best ceviche in New York City (that’s got to be Caletta 111 in Richmond Hill), it unquestionably serve the best ceviche within walking distance of the Americas Society.
