Marija Kovačević’s Music for Broken Violins is just what it says it is — and it sounds like no other string music, cuz it isn’t string music: it’s music for wood and glue as well, letting time and neglect do to violins what treatment does to prepared pianos. The playful, playing piano trio (jazz configuration) Bearthoven plays two of their favorite composers (who are also two of this List’s), Sarah Hennies and Scott Wollschleger.
