One of the great things about writing an arts newsletter is that you get to make absolutely ridiculous pronouncements, like this: the best American play of the last 10 years was Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins’s An Octoroon. There: I’ve said it and I believe it. So his latest, about a decades-later reuinion of a self-proclaimed high school “Multi-Ethnic Reject Group” has got to be worth your attention — even if it seems, in prospect, like it might be less phantasmagorical than Jacobs-Jenkins’s masterpiece.
