Kaija Saariaho and Sibelius are two composers who, once you know they’re Finnish, you can’t help hearing them as such: you can hear the ice, you think. The concertante flute piece Aile du Songe is particularly piquant and beguiling even for Saariaho. And the soloist is Claire Chase (and the conductor Susanna Mälkki)!
