Julie Mayo’s work attracts antitheses: the promotional materials for this piece talks of “the relational possibilities of inexactitude within specificity”, and that seems exactly right. What that doesn’t convey though, is how intellectually entertaining, even amusing, her stuff can be.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: In person, neighborhood French at French Louie. Streaming at home, have an Amsterdam Sunshine: pour 2 oz. Gin and 1 oz. sweet Vermouth, with 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with an orange twist.
