There’s a lot of (excellent) avant-Korean music being made in New York right now (see also, e.g., Tuesday’s Carnegie Hill Concerts show). DoYeon Kim plays the gayageum in ways that have roots in tradition, but incorporate contemporary experimentation — and stagecraft, for that matter. And tonight she certainly has some great people (including Brandon Lopez and Adam O’Farrill) playing with her.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: In person, nothing for it but to walk over to Insa for some clean fresh Korean. Streaming at home, have a Yogurt Soju: pour 3 oz. each of Soju and Yakult (not as hard to find as you think!) into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Add 3 oz. lemon-lime soda. Stir. Strain into a glass of some sort.
