William Byrd, the leading English composer of his time, was an (illegally) practicing Catholic in Elizabethan England. So he officially wrote Protestant church music, surreptitiously wrote Catholic church music, and happily for us also wrote a bunch of secular instrumental music. It’s all great — and we’ll get to hear some of each in the Catacomb.
