Much as you want to like it, Tamar-Kali’s rock music is neither here nor there. So hopes aren’t high for this foray into classical forms — especially since it’s fully in keeping with Lincoln Center’s current beat-the-audience-over-the-head-with-didactic-tell-don’t-show-social-relevance-appealing-directly-to-its-preconceptions-and-not-daring-to-challenge-it-at-all approach, an insult both to audiences and to art. But OTOH the music is going to draw explicitly on Tamar-Kali’s Gullah-Geechee Sea Islands roots, so who knows? The price is certainly right.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Now that it’s Summer, you can’t do better than to grab some Charles Pan-Fried Chicken and take it into the Park.
