Yeah, I know, we don’t do Oldies Shows here at The List. But in his heyday, Grandmaster Flash and his crew were the most important musicians in the US (so important that a NYC Clash audience found it necessary to throw things at them onstage when The Clash chose them to open, showing not only how impactful Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five were, but how despicable — and conservative! — even the so-called left wing of the White Rock Audience is). Respect.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: I remember when Roberto’s opened, it was like a New Wave had come to the Belmont/Arthur Avenue scene. That was in 1989 — only a decade and a half after Hip-Hop was formed. Now, like Grandmaster Flash, it’s resolutely Old Skool.
