Here’s what I think this concert will be about. One of the foundational composer/musicians of the wonderful Brazilian urban vernacular music form Choro was Jacob do Bandolim, a Jew. Choro doesn’t sound particularly like Klezmer — but the two forms share certain social and structural elements. So who better than avant-Klezmer trumpet master Frank London to put together a show uniting local and Brazilian musicians?
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Monday in Midtown, Pietro’s is as classic Red Sauce as classic Red Sauce gets; I only wish it were better. Tuesday in Union Square, good cocktails at Raines Law Room.
