Experimental music with visuals. Among other things, vocal-centered improv quartet Time Trout: truly unlike anything else out there — and how many acts can you say that about? And longtime off-and-on collaborators Marcia Bassett and Samara Lubelski, who like to fuck with sound and don’t mind being noisy about it.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: I guess if you’re in the Alley, you’ve got to go to Au Cheval. Even if it isn’t a patch on the Chicago original, you can still put together a satisfying (if gutbusting) meal if you’re careful. (Hint: fried bologna is your friend.)
