How many Bach pieces can be justly called “delightful”? The secular Coffee Cantata is one, playfully recounting familial conflict over the then-new-to-Europe stimulant (the fuel for virtually all subsequent classical music). Don’t worry: this performance, with the music arranged and the libretto translated by Geoffrey McDonald, appears to be “immersive” only insofar as it’s presented in a coffee shop (come to think of it, the original performance in the 1730s was, too) and you drink coffee while watching it.
