Everybody loves Pergolesi’s gorgeous Stabat Mater (whether a mother watching her son die — or so she thought — should be conveyed so prettily is a question for another day). Also on TENET’s program are pieces by Isabela Leonarda, a Piemontese composer of the early Baroque, whose musical excellence will once more piss you off at people who cry “woke” every time a previously marginalized artist is revived.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Friday, the neighborhood has certainly taken the Medditeranean Dagon to heart. Saturday, most agree that you can’t go to Mendham without stopping by Sammy’s Ye Old Cider Mill, a steakhouse in a former speakeasy (still run by the same family). You wait at the (vintage) bar while your meal is being prepared, and only when it’s ready do you get called away from the bar to the upstairs dining room: my way to run a restaurant.
