BartokString Quartet No. 5: it could have been on December’s Children. BrahmsString Quartet No. 3: even I, a lover of Brahms (not that I ever say so here) find it thick and clotted. Now let’s get to the point: Kevin Lau’s String Quartet No. 3, which you’d never guess was written within the last decade. And the Second String Quartet of Eleanor Alberga, whose music never forgets to lilt (even if it’s sometimes hidden way down underneath).
