OK, this is really great.  A Jewish-made lost Weimar cinema silent classic tragicomedy that was essentially remade in Hollywood (not nearly as well) four years later as The Jazz Singer.  With an exquisite score composed and played live by the great klezmer+ violinist Alicia Svigals and master silent-film accompanist Donald Sosin.  And the beautiful young man who plays the cantor's son who abandons traditional Jewish life for secular show biz success looks so eerily familiar because, years later, he played  . . .  Baron Kurtz in The Third Man!
