Houston's great chamber/jazz organization DACAMERA presents a gala that actually doesn't insult your intelligence!  The unsurpassable flautist Claire Chase doing Marcos Balter is closest to the heart of this List.  But let's not overlook the great Davóne Tines singing spirituals; Sharon Isbin playing some of her beloved Latin-American specialties on her guitar; Bach Cello Suites from Sonia Wieder-Atherton; solo percussion from Pedrito Martinez, who if he isn't the best Afro-Cuban percussionist on the planet is up there; and pianist James Francies, whose neo-Fusion appeal frankly escapes me.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:  Not a Houston Cocktail, that's for sure!  While it has no particular Houston connection, a Brugal (from the Dominican Republic, in fact) might be nice:  pour 2 oz. aged Rum, 1 oz. lime juice, and 3/4 oz. Simple Syrup over a handful of mint in a cocktail shaker.  Add ice.  Shake.  Strain into a Martini glass or coupe.
