I like to make fun of classical music's sudden scramble to program the Black composers it's been willfully disregarding for centuries. But if the result is a concert by a major orchestra featuring a new violin concerto by Tyshawn Sorey, surely one of the best musicians on the planet — played by the magnificent Jennifer Koh, no less — and a marvelous chamber piece by the once-neglected-then-forgotten Florence Price, well, I'm not complaining. (Did you know that Detroit is in the Eastern time zone? Neither did I.)

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Nothing but Martinis this week: we need something STRONG. Pour 2 oz. Gin and 1 oz. dry Vermouth into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.
