Kris Davis has now risen to the very top level of jazz pianist/composers.   You could call her angular asymmetrical style neo-Monkian — except that she doesn't really sound like Monk (or anyone else other than herself, for that matter).  One thing she shares with Monk, though:  no matter how outré her melodic and rhythmic conceptions might be, she's just about never not fun to listen to.  It's no surprise this show is already sold out (and under these circumstances, cancellations seem unlikely).  Look at the Jazz Gallery's calendar for the future shows in their Happy Hour Hang series (I'll be Listing them selectively).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:  Let's honor Davis's (and my) borough of residence with a Brooklyn:  stir 1-1/2 oz. Rye, 1/2 oz. dry Vermouth, 1/4 oz. Maraschino liqueur, and A LOT (go crazy!) of orange bitters in an ice-filled cocktail shaker, strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupé, garnish with an orange or lemon peel.
