An excerpted preview of an upcoming opera on Kafka to be presented in full at La MaMa when all this blows over.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:  I guess that with Kafka we should be drinking something austere but unusual.  And bitter.  Hmmmmm, maybe a .38 Special:  pour 2-3/8 oz. blended Scotch and 3/8 oz. each of Yellow Chartreuse and Amaro (CioCiaro by preference) into an ice-filled cocktail shaker.  (Remember that 3/8 oz. is just a bit less than 1/2 oz., as measured on your jigger.)  Stir.  Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe and garnish with a lemon twist.
