A rare chance to experience (in a reading) the work of emerging Japanese playwright Shoko Matsumura, whose work reminds at least this gaijin of the gentle surrealism of Murakami (albeit wackier and also harder-edged).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Spurred on by Pete Wells, I recently revisited Pietro's for the first time since, probably, the Reagan Administration. Like most touted Old Skool Red Sauce places, it wasn't very good.
