Catherine Lamb is another composer who's been getting me through the Quarantine. It's pretty easy to see what all these composers have in common: they suspend time. Their music doesn't "develop" in the traditional sense: it endures, until it doesn't; incident is either spaced out, stretched out, or left out. The music just is. The JACK Quartet, obviously, is beyond comparison.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Hush and Wonder: rinse a chilled Martini glass or coupe with Crème de Violette. Pour 2 oz. white Rum and 3/4 oz. each of lime juice and Simple Syrup, with 11 (that's right: 11!) dashes of grapefruit bitters, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into the rinsed glass.
