In September 2020, two things happened relevant to this show: The Tank's anticipated production of Howard S. Rubenstein's translation of Prometheus Bound was called on account of COVID, and the eminent physician/playwright/translator died. We can now see this cinematically conceived video, even if sadly Rubenstein can't. Aeschylus is the most "primitive", otherworldly of the Big Three Athenian Tragedians, and for that reason for some of us he's the most fascinating. For us, it's less that his works speak to us across the millennia than that they give us access to a whole other mental universe. (Of course, we now know that this play arguably isn't really by Aeschylus — but later for that.)
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Greek Doctor: pour 1 oz. each of Ouzo, Vodka, and orange juice, and 1/2 oz. lemon juice, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into an Old Fashioned glass over ice. Garnish with an orange slice.
