There are strong elements of ritual in lots of '60s-'70s Euro-American avant-garde work. So, in responding to a '70s piece by Carole Weber, British-Rwandan musician/sound artist Auclair wonders, what if it were recast as a Rwandan domestic ritual?

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Bitter Mai Tai: pour 1 oz. each of overproof Jamaican Rum, Campari, and lime juice, and 1/2 oz. each of Orgeat and Curaçao, into a cocktail shaker WITHOUT ICE. Dry shake. Pour into a mug 2/3 full of crushed ice. Garnish with a lime wedge, mint, and nutmeg.
