The Imani Winds and the Catalyst Quartet are two great groups. Here they get together to play music reflecting places from which people have immigrated to the U.S. (for better or for worse). Among the composers are such regular List denizens as the exciting Jessie Montgomery (who until very recently was in the Catalyst Quartet) and the sublime Nathalie Joachim — as well as Roberto Sierra, who really ought to be one of the most popular composers around, overplayed by the likes of the New York Philharmonic. (There used to be a very limited number of in-person tickets available to this show — but they're long gone.)

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Sam Ross's deathless classic, the Penicillin: pour 2 oz. blended Scotch and 3/4 oz. each of lemon juice and Honey-Ginger Syrup (you make this just the way you think you do) into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Top with Islay Scotch. Garnish with some candied ginger (which you really ought to have around in any event).
