The excellent Jasper String Quartet plays something by Brooklyn's own Shelley Washington, and also (not that Washington has anything to worry about) the greatest string quartet ever written, Beethoven's 14th.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Almost as profound as Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14, the Black Barrel: pour 2 oz. Rye and 1/2 oz. each of Averna Amaro and Amontillado Sherry, with 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, into an Old Fashioned glass over ice. Stir. Garnish with a lemon twist.
