Drummer Ches Smith, pianist Craig Taborn, and violist Mat Maneri are a fascinating regular trio. Guitarist Bill Frisell is about the greatest ringer you could imagine.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: If you go to the venue, it'll be nice to walk around the corner to the welcoming and delicious Kind of Soul. At home, time to break out that supreme cocktail, the Last Word: pour 3/4 oz. each of Gin, green Chartreuse, Maraschino liqueur and lime juice into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Perfection requires no garnish.
