Sarah Thawer is a terrific drummer who plays Carnatic/Hindustani, yes (that's why she's here) — but also jazz, Latin, funk, hip-hop, and lots else.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Hot in the Shade (RIP Diamond Reef) (at least for now): pour 1-1/2 oz. aged Rum, 1 oz. pineapple juice, and 1/2 oz. each of lime juice, and Orgeat into a cocktail shaker WITHOUT ice. Dry shake. Pour into a tall glass 2/3 full of crushed ice. Stick in a straw. Float 1/2 oz. Bual Madeira on top. Top with more crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig and some grated nutmeg.
