An excellent program. Among the composers featured in this string quartet recital are current List fave Trevor Weston, who takes his West Indian background and runs with it;* Carlos Simon, who writes eclectic but serious music of enormous potential popular appeal with a clear personal style; and George Walker, a "lost" (by whom, exactly?) 20th Century mainstream classical composer whose works weren't widely programmed — even after he won a Pulitzer — despite their being as well-crafted and appealing as anyone other contemporary's in the genre. Couldn't be because he was Black, right?
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Wednesday, I'm sure Trevor Weston would want you to stroll over to Lolo's Seafood Shack, for Caribbean-style seafood that's supposed to have something to do with New England-style (but I wouldn't sweat that but would rather just enjoy it for its sheer deliciousness). Thursday, grab some of the beautifully fried fish at Famous Fish Market and take it into the Park to eat.
