Let's hope that this exploration of black womanhood is one of the last films — as opposed to live dance performances — we see. Which is no reflection on Shauna Davis, whose work is challenging, incisive, and wonderful.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: I'm personally really jonesing for a Sazerac: rinse a chilled Old Fashioned glass with Absinthe. Muddle a sugar cube doused with 3 dashes of Peychaud's bitters in the bottom of a cocktail shaker (some people put in 1 teaspoon of club soda to help this process along). Pour in 2 oz. Rye and fill with ice. Stir. Strain into the rinsed glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
