Monteverdi's Renaissance-into-Baroque chamber opera (unless it's a dramatic madrigal) (nobody calls it a cantata) Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda is always good to hear — and here it'll be presented in VR (if you have the equipment)! It'll be joined on this program by vocal pieces by Monteverdi's Venetian contemporaries Dario Castello (known only to Baroque maniacs like me — but well loved by those who know him) and Barbara Strozzi, who was about as good as any Italian Baroque composer you can name, but whose works were lost to history until recently for reasons you can guess.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Bittersweet Symphony: pour 1-1/2 oz. Gin and 3/4 oz. each of Punt e Mes and Aperol into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.
