Artist Rashid Johnson has designed a sculptural stage on the Astor Place Plaza, and this performing arts series continuing through the month "responds" to it. Saturday's program is Resurgence, with performances and presentations relating to the neighborhood and its history (going back to before the Europeans took it over), as well as its present. At 5:00 PM, things get dancy with an Opening Night Party. Sunday's program, The Portal, presented by the Queer art collective Papi Juice, features games as well as performance and music.
