Assembling dance companies from around the world, the Battery Dance Festival has, over its 40 years of existence, maintained an astonishingly high level of quality (there's a lot of great dance out there in the world!). Tonight's program, in celebration of India's Independence Day, features four companies from India. It will, I can promise, be stunning.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: If you go (and I mean come on: this is dance), one of the great anomalies of New York dining is that the Southern Italian restaurant at Wagner Park is actually good: Gigino. (You'll have to go before the show, though.) If you insist on the greatly inferior experience (almost to the point of wasting your time) of watching at home, ameliorate things with a few Masala Martinis: pour 2 oz. Gin and 1/2 oz. each of lime juice and Simple Syrup, with 1/8 teaspoon each of ground Cumin and salt, in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a lemon slice.
