Aaron Copland once famously said (unless it was Virgil Thompson) that American music was music written by an American. So this program’s attempt to discover what makes music American might be misdirected. In any event, it’ll take us from inti figgis-vizueta to Copland himself (his canonical Appalachian Spring in its original chamber orchestration). Love ‘em both — even if I don’t see much connection.
