Busy night for Shahzad Ismaily. That quartet with him (bass, synthesizers), Free Jazz sax Zoh Amba, guitarist Steve Gunn, and drummer Jim White ought to be something. But the ensemble in which he plays behind modern Indonesian explorer Peni Candra Rini should also be a thing to hear. Lukas Koenig doing things with percussion. And it wouldn’t be an Assembly without trumpeter Nate Wooley combining notated and unnotated music in his amazing ensemble.
