It is indicative of how anti-art the new approach at Lincoln Center is that we are told that the (excellent) Ivalas are playing contemporary pieces by Latin-American composers but not who the composers are: apparently Lincoln Center thinks the representation of Latin Americans is more important than the work. Given the fructity of the current Latine music scene, though, it’ll probably be really good. No doubts about Peruvian-in-New York composer/performer Efrain Rozas, who uses robotics in highly interesting and enjoyable ways. (This series is continuing over the next few weeks, and for all my carping about the presentation is worth paying attention to.)
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: You can whine that Rosa Mexicano isn’t nearly as good as it used to be, and I’ll whine right along with you. But it isn’t affirmatively bad.
