Jason Moran explores the music and legacy of James Reese Europe, who not only could be argued to have invented Big Band Jazz, but could also be argued, while on combat duty with the Harlem Hellfighters in World War I, to have started the French jazz mania — all before jazz was even formulated as a kind of music.
