Chris Williams is playing trumpet all over the place these days, and he never seems to play a note that’s expected, uninteresting, or ill-conceived. He’s playing tonight with the shimmering percussionist Booker Stardrum (whose father, I can’t keep myself from pointing out, was Dean Drummond). Also on the bill is the pianist Alexis Marcelo; If Free Soul Jazz were a genre, he’d be a prime exponent.
