There are are all sorts of Europeans doing a sort of Ambient Minimalism that verges on Muzak. Why is Hauschka’s actually good? Maybe it’s a streak of underlying sharpness, as opposed to the competition’s fuzziness. Certainly the others wouldn’t pair on a bill with Christopher Tignor, whose slowmoving drones can be actually challenging.
