Timo Andres is not only a really fine composer, but also a really fine pianist. He brings to this wonderful recital not only a brand new piece by himself, but a new piece by Gabriella Smith as well. And less new pieces by Ellington and Strayhorn (a really gorgeous one) and Ellington alone, Robin Holcomb, Copland, Rzewski, and (of course) Philip Glass (so-called genre distinctions, of course, need not apply). I mean, really, what’s not to love here?
