Trumpeter Peter Evans has rejiggered Being and Becoming, one of the best, most distinctive jazz units playing around New York City. Spirtual jazz resurgent Michael Shekwoaga Ode is now holding the drum seat — a perfect fit for this group. And for tonight, at least, vibes ace Joel Ross will be replaced by Craig Taborn on keyboards: one of the few players extant who wouldn’t make you miss Joel Ross. One expects that this band’s unique compound of roiling excitement around a serene core will remain intact.
