Every now and then Laurie Anderson forgoes her usual composed music/performance pieces for a show and improvises on violin.  Usually, it's with avant-garde experimentalists; I've never seen her do it with a mainstream jazzman like (the great) bassist Christian McBride.  Frankly, I'm skeptical.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:  This show's Collins will be the Bitter Tom:  pour 2 oz. Gin, 1/2 oz. Campari, 3/4 oz. lemon juice, 1/2 oz. Simple Syrup, and 1 teaspoon each of Bénédictine and pomegranate molasses (which you can make by mixing Grenadine with molasses — you don't have to go crazy here) in an ice-filled cocktail shaker.  Shake.  Strain into a Collins glass over ice.  Top with club soda.  Garnish with a grapefruit twist.
