We start off with a 1970s Sari Dienes piece obscurely based on the baking of a pie, and go with sound artist/avant-popster Sydney Spann wherever she takes us from there (which includes the Jersey Shore, where Spann worked as a live-in nanny).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Let's keep easing into the new season with a Bitter Mai Tai (which I have to admit I'm quite liking): pour 1 oz. each of overproof Jamaican Rum, Campari, and lime juice, and 1/2 oz. each of Orgeat and Curaçao, into a cocktail shaker WITHOUT ICE. Dry shake. Pour into a mug 2/3 full of crushed ice. Garnish with a lime wedge, mint, and nutmeg.
